2 Kings, Chapter 6
Synopsis: Elisha’s following prophets want to build a new place. Elisha agrees. During construction one of the workers loses his axe head in the water. Elisha performs a miracle by making the axe head float. This is great instruction about 1) the blessing of simple, productive labor, and 2) the provision of God even in the seemingly, big picture unimportant.
Then, the King of Aram wars with Israel but all his plans keep getting intercepted by Elisha. The king of Aram sends soldiers, Elisha’s servants get scared but then Elisha lets them see the spiritual support that’s on their side. He then blinds the Aram soldiers and leads them to Israel where they are captured. Elisha advises the king of Israel to feed them rather than kill them and then send them back to Aram. This is great instruction about doubt, spirituality, and compassion.
Then we learn of a famine in Samaria because of a siege by Aram. The king of Israel blames God for the famine. This is instruction showing me how erroneously and immediately blame God for bad things.
