Rucking The Ruins

2 Kings, Chapter 9

Synopsis: This chapter is about a new character called Jehu. Elisha sends a young prophet to the soldier Jehu to anoint him King of Israel. Elisha gives oddly specific instructions for the anointing. The young prophet is more verbose than he was instructed to be but when Jehu is asked to summarize what the young prophet told him he repeats verbatim what Elisha instructed the young prophet to say. So, it seems that God’s message wasn’t ruined by the messenger.

Then Jehu goes on a rampage and kills the incumbent Kings of Israel (Joram) and Judah (Ahaziah). He then kills Jezebel, or at least some dogs do. All deaths are in accordance with prior prophecy. With Jehu’s killing of Joram and Ahaziah my thoughts go to whether there is a unification of the Kingdoms coming and that Jehu is going to be a great king? Spoiler: a quick read ahead shows he isn’t.
